HX (Hurtigruten Expeditions), World Leader in Sustainable Expedition Travel, announces Alex Dichter as New Chairman
Travel Industry Veteran & Strategist Strengthens Formidable Leadership Team, As Global Expedition Operator Splits From Coastal Operations & Positions Itself For Further Growth
London, 19 March 2024: HX (Hurtigruten Expeditions) today announced the appointment of Alex Dichter, Leader of McKinsey’s Global Travel practice, as their new Chairman of the Board. The appointment follows HX`s recent rebranding, as a next step towards HX being a fully standalone company to further position HX for global growth and worldwide recognition as a leader in the expedition space.
“With both HX and Hurtigruten having revealed their new names and brand identities, we are well positioned to deliver the Group strategy and create two distinct businesses. The appointment of Alex Dichter as the new Chairman of HX, is the next step towards establishing a fully autonomous company with its own dedicated board and Executive Leadership Team said Daniel Skjeldam, CEO, Hurtigruten Group.
With over 25 years of experience in the industry, Dichter currently serves as the head of McKinsey’s Boston office. His exceptional professional background and extensive experience in some of HX`s key growth markets, uniquely qualify him to assume this role as he prepares for retirement from McKinsey next year. A personal passion for travel and a strong belief in the enduring trend of seeking experiences over material goods make him a natural fit for the company’s ethical and mindful travel approach.
“We have an unparalleled depth of knowledge in exploration and adventure travel, and the consistent feedback from our guests is overwhelmingly positive,” said Daniel Skjeldam, CEO, Hurtigruten Group. “HX has built one of the strongest executive leadership teams in the industry. As we look to enhance our board and management with even greater experience and expertise, I’m thrilled to have Alex join us for this next stage,” he continued.
Dichter noted, “I have witnessed the tremendous growth potential in the expedition market as travelers increasingly seek meaningful experiences. HX`s expertise, unwavering commitment to sustainability, and long-standing support of scientific research and local communities clearly position them as a leader in their field.”
As HX establishes itself as a standalone brand and business — separate from its sister-company, Hurtigruten — Dichter joins at a juncture where it is more favorably positioned than ever before to pursue its growth potential. His valuable input and wealth of experience will bring an informed eye to an already powerful strategy.
“I’m thrilled to come on board during this pivotal and exciting phase of HX`s growth journey,” Dichter concluded.
