Hurtigruten is expanding the world’s greenest and most extensive expedition cruise program with a number of new and unique destinations. From 2020, Hurtigruten guests can explore the Alaskan wilderness on board the brand-new and hybrid powered MS Roald Amundsen.

As one the first major companies Hurtigruten bans all unnecessary single-use plastic. Already by July 2nd, everything from plastic straws, drink mixers, plastic cups, coffee lids and plastic bags will be removed from all Hurtigruten ships. The goal is to become the Wolds first plastic free shipping company.
Hurtigruten has announced the biggest green upgrade in the company’s 125 year history. Up to nine of its custom built expedition ships are to rebuilt to hybrid propulsion – featuring LNG engines and battery packs. The planning and installation of the hybrid power and propulsion system upgrade starts immediately, and will be finalized by 2021.
When the world’s first hybrid powered expedition ship embarks on her maiden voyage, every piece of art on board will be handpicked by HM Queen Sonja of Norway’s art foundation - the Queen Sonja Print Award. Almost 600 unique works of art by young Norwegian artists, as well as previous award winners and works of art by HM Queen Sonja herself will be featured throughout MS Roald Amundsen.

Hurtigruten has established a cooperation with the Norwegian start up Blueye Robotics, introducing a new world under water for our guests, says Hurtigruten CEO, Daniel Skjeldam.
Hurtigruten invests heavily in the explorer cruise line’s land based operations on Svalbard, and spends 200 million Norwegian kroner on expansions and upgrades on arctic hotels and on adventure travel.
