As one the first major companies Hurtigruten bans all unnecessary single-use plastic. Already by July 2nd, everything from plastic straws, drink mixers, plastic cups, coffee lids and plastic bags will be removed from all Hurtigruten ships. Hurtigruten has announced the biggest green upgrade in the company’s 125 year history. Up to nine of its custom built expedition ships are to rebuilt to hybrid propulsion – featuring LNG engines and battery packs. The planning and installation of the hybrid power and propulsion system upgrade starts immediately, and will be finalized by 2021.

When the world’s first hybrid powered expedition ship embarks on her maiden voyage, every piece of art on board will be handpicked by HM Queen Sonja of Norway’s art foundation - the Queen Sonja Print Award. Almost 600 unique works of art by young Norwegian artists, as well as previous award winners and works of art by HM Queen Sonja herself will be featured throughout MS Roald Amundsen.
